Pastor’s Message for Sunday, April 5, 2020

Dear Friends –

This is a week of remembrance and reflection. Please go to our website (www.cedarvilleumc.org) and look for scripture readings and reflections for each day of this Holy Week.

Today, Palm Sunday, is the beginning of Holy Week, the last week of Jesus’ human life. On this day, we remember the shouts of “Hosanna!” as Jesus entered Jerusalem that day.

Later in the week, we remember how Jesus gathered with his disciples in an Upper Room, how he humbled himself and got down on his knees to wash the dirty feet of his disciples, and how he commanded them (and us) to do likewise – to serve one another.

We remember how, at the table, Jesus raised bread and told his disciples to remember his broken body when they broke the bread; and we remember how he raised a cup of wine and called the disciples to use the wine as a remembrance of his blood that would be shed on the cross.

We remember how Jesus prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane. We remember how is disciples were unable to stay awake to pray with him in his hour of trial.

We remember how Judas betrayed Jesus…with a kiss, identifying him as the one the guards should seize.

We remember how Peter denied Jesus…three times before the rooster crowed.

We remember how the other disciples deserted Jesus.

We remember the times we have betrayed or denied or abandoned Jesus.

We remember how Jesus suffered and died on a Roman cross and was laid in a borrowed tomb.

And, we wait…

…for God’s mighty act of Resurrection!!

Blessings, prayers and peace!!
